FORMER Journal Champion of Champions David Clark is keeping his fingers crossed his intermittent back trouble does not strike again until after today's final round in the Automatic Retailing PGA North Region Championship at Burgham Park.

The Morpeth-attached professional mastered the windy conditions, which blew several overnight contenders off course, when he breezed to a 69 to add to his opening 67 and move into pole position on eight-under-par.

Destination jail for a disastrous thief

A DESPERATE thief left a trail of destruction after stealing a patrol car from Morpeth police station to drive himself home.

Matthew Drummond grabbed the car keys and a jacket from the station and set off in the car for Berwick - almost immediately crashing into a parked Honda and a Jeep, damaging all three vehicles.

FAMILIES in a picturesque conservation village fear they are facing the prospect of two wind farms being developed near their peaceful rural community.

People in Longhirst near Morpeth say they are horrified at the possibility of 15 giant turbines - each measuring 130 metres from base to blade tip - going up on nearby farmland.
