Horrors of the frontline

Posted by John Dawson on Oct 28, 10 11:05 AM in Nostalgia

Mrs Wilson, of North Place, Morpeth, received the following interesting letter from her son Sgt Charles Wilson, of the 9th Northumberland Fusiliers, from 'Somewhere in France' in March 1916.

It shows the true horrors these men experienced on the frontline in the First World War and the ultimate sacrifice some of them made for their country. Imagine a mother receiving it in the post ...

It read: "I am glad to let you know that I am much better than I might have been owing to a German shell bursting in a dug-out we were in. Me and another six were just having a few minutes to ourselves before getting tea.
