Video: Tracing Northumberland family history

Family history buffs in Northumberland are turning to the web.

Northumberland County Council produced a video (below) to raise awareness of the facilities available to people wanting to know more about their ancestors.

It was uploaded onto internet video sharing site YouTube and has got more than 12,000 hits.

Hundreds of people gathered in Morpeth on Tuesday to welcome home the Second Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, from their tour of Afghanistan. The Duchess of Northumberland and Alan Shearer, in his official capacity as Deputy Lord Lieutenant, were in attendance for the parade through Morpeth town centre.

Video: Recycling in Northumberland

A video has been launched by Northumberland County Council to help it meet demanding Government recycling targets.

The tutorial video (watch below) shows Northumberland County Council's new recycling centre in action and helps residents understand what can and can't be put into the recycling bin.

In Northumberland the council is responsible for collecting waste from more than 140,000 households as well as thousands of business premises.

Pictures from the Remembrance Day parade to the cenotaph in Morpeth yesterday, where people turned out to pay their respects to servicemen and women who have given their lives for their country in conflicts around the world. Poppy wreaths were laid at the cenotaph at Castle Bank.

Whalton Show enjoys improved weather

Whalton Show enjoyed the relatively good weather at the weekend.

The show hosted a very impressive display of classic cars as well as Criss Cross the contortionist (pictured bottom left), Renewable energy exhibits from Geowarmth, WI catering and exhibits in the village hall.

The show's Martin Keegan said: "It was a great day - we had to cancel last year. The alpacas (pictured centre) were hugely successful and very popular. We had 70 dog show entries (pictured right) and the classic car show was phenomenal."

The show doubled the money it raised last year, and it will be split among the church, school and village hall

Children enjoy bank holiday fun at Wallington

At Wallington Hall yesterday youngsters came together for a teddy bears picnic.

There was a trail for the children to follow, which showed different bears through the ages from Winnie the Pooh to the Muppets, as well as story-telling, a craft workshop and a best dressed bear competition with 60 entrants.
